My Challenge is to do boxing for 10 days, achieving a target 250MEPS a day EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS IN 2024

bg my challenge

My challenge is uncomfortable for me because...

It pushes me out of my comfort zone, just like Nedd’s journey inspires us all to do. I have Cerebral Palsy and am Deaf. Like Nedd, I want to see what my body is capable of doing. For my 10 day challenge, I am doing boxing at 9Round Wantirna  everyday reaching my target of 250 MEPs daily.

A few days into the challenge now and even though, I originally set my target of 250 MEPS daily, I thought what if, I could a little bit more MEPS than the previous day. And that what, I have been doing, a little bit more MEPS each day.

My Updates

Testing my Limit - 653 MEPS 🥊🥊🥊

Tuesday 29th Oct
Mission completed 💪. My goal was to do more than the usual extra 20-30 MEPS. And, I did just that. I adjusted my level of intensity, so that I would have the energy to achieve my goal. I achieved my uncomfortable goals by 1) Training at midnight, 2) Achieving more MEPS than the previous day. Each day, the challenge became tougher and it’s certainly not sustainable. However, Nedd is 100 percent correct, in saying, “We are so much more capable than we think we are”. For me personally, it was about physical and mental growth, testing myself to push beyond my limits. It’s been a privilege to participate in this challenge. One of the main reasons why I invested an immense amount of time on this challenge is because Nedd and I grew up in the country and went to the same high school. My brother, also, has close connections with Nedd and his team. So, it’s pretty special as it’s so close to home. Lastly, thankyou so much to everyone who has donated and for supporting me in Nedd’s challenge. It’s been an incredible experience, one that I will never forget and I’m damn proud. Take Care, Everyone Total MEPS = 5095 Total time = 22 hours and 35 minutes “I want you to promise me you’re not going to stop this fight, no matter what, no matter what” Apollo Creed

Day 10 - 562 MEPS

Monday 28th Oct
Even though, it’s Day 10, I said I will do 11 days of Nedd’s uncomfortable challenge. I will follow my word right through to the end. Entering into the gym that’s black and red on the 10th day in a row is starting to get to me. I feel like I’m in the Essendon AFL club room. Even, just looking at Mickey, dressed in red t-shirt and black tracksuit makes it more real. At least the Essendon supporters are cheering me on 🤗. However, I have a job to do and that is what the challenge is all about- getting uncomfortable. More importantly, making a difference to people lives who are experiencing homelessness. My arms are burning from constant jabs, crosses, backfists, hooks, hammers against Muhammad, Pete, Sam and Harry. My legs and feet are on fire from shin kicks, knee strikes and round kicks against Stylebender and Danny. However, I still get to go home to a comfortable bed, warm shower and food to eat. These are privileges as anyone of us can experience homelessness instantly. “ Life is not about how hard of a hit you can give. It’s about how many hits you can take and still keep moving forward”. Apollo Creed

Day 9 - 535 MEPS

Sunday 27th Oct
I’m not done, I can’t stop now. I have a job to do and will continue to fight. Had a good workout with all the boxers, with Mickey telling me to “Just keep on punching, punch him out”. When I started to slow down a bit, Mickey had a chat to me and said “Quite often what holds us back is that we think we can’t do it. But, we can do it if we try. It’s a confidence thing. Mickey wasn’t telling me what to do - he was giving me something to think about. I thought okay I can do this. With Mickey’s encouragement, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and started to enjoy being uncomfortable. On the way home, I stopped at 7 Eleven and grab two Nedd’s Choccy Milk as a post workout meal. “All I want to do is go the distance” Rocky Balboa

Day 8 - 506 MEPS

Saturday 26th Oct
“Just a little bit more, just a little bit more and a bit more”, I kept telling myself. To help me get through this, I imagine one of my coaches from 9 round, Ron, pretending to be “Mickey” from the movie “Rocky” 🤗. I had a great workout with Muhammad and Pete, with Mickey in the background. Mickey instructs me which direction to go, but I misunderstood and went in the opposite direction 😂. Rather than throwing his arms up in the air with frustration, Mickey chuckles and redirects me in the right direction. “Going in one more round when you don’t think you can. That’s what makes all the difference in your life”. Rocky Balboa

Day 7 - 484 MEPS

Friday 25th Oct
Just when I think I have nothing left in the tank, my mind says, just a little bit more and somehow I pushed through. Sam and Danny gave me a good workout- a lot of jab, jab, cross, lead hook and round kicks with Sam. With Danny, many shin kicks, upper cuts and hammers “It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out: it’s the pebble in your shoe”. Muhammad Ali

Day 6 - 456 MEPS

Thursday 24th Oct
Over half way! Fatigue hit me like a tonne of bricks, my calves started cramping and I knew I had to improvise my workout plan. In saying this, I still got a little bit more MEPS than the previous day. This is nothing compared to people who are experiencing homelessness through no fault of their own. Peter Hatton and I fought the good fight this morning. Respect to Pete, as he was my first boxing coach and I fell in love with the sport because of him. Spent a lot of time with Harry Garside doing upper body workout!!!

Day 5 - 434 MEPS

Wednesday 23rd Oct
On Day 2, I decided to give each bag a name of a highly respected boxers from Round 3 to Round 8. Visualisation is powerful. Therefore, I can visualise who I am up against that is more powerful than me, giving me the willpower and the desire to stay in the fight. These boxers are; Round 3 - Muhammad Ali Round 4 - Peter Hatton Round 5 - Stylebender Round 6 - Sam Greco Round 7 - Danny Green and Round 8 - Harry Garside.

Day 1 - Nedd’s uncomfortable challenge

Saturday 19th Oct
I couldn’t wait to start Nedd’s’s uncomfortable challenge, so I started today. A day early, making the challenge 11 days.
Day 1 - 325 MEPs - Boxing 🥊

How does MEPS work.

Thursday 17th Oct
MEPS stands for Myzone Effort Points and how this works in boxing is that the greater the intensity your workout is, the more points you get. My daily target is 250 MEPs every day for ten days. I will upload information about it.
