My Challenge is to finish my shower each day with 60 seconds of full-on cold water. (I really hate cold water. And I will be a little hampered in doing other physcial activity as the challenge starts 10 days after I'm having a total hip replacement.) EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS IN 2024

My challenge is uncomfortable for me because...

It pushes me out of my comfort zone, inspired by Nedd’s constantly doing the same with his challenges. I'm stepping up to this challenge to raise awareness and support for We Are Mobilise, helping those experiencing homelessness, and hopefully get a bit of personal growth as well, doing something I'm really not comfortable (or happy) about!

My Updates

Days 1 and 2

Monday 21st Oct
I have to admit to getting a bit nervous last week about what I had signed up for.  Then I saw the Reel of what Nedd had put himself through, and I realised I was being a complete marshmallow. How hard could 60 seconds of cold shower be?
So feeling mentally fortified, I still waited until mid-morning on the Sunday when the bathroom was a bit warmer. I brought my phone in to set a 60 second timer, and I was all set. Did I mention I have to use a shower chair at the moment, as it's just 10 days after my total hip replacement and less than a week since getting home from hospital?
Once I swung the mixer to full-on cold, I was so paralysed by the cold, I couldn't sit on my chair, and just stood there making weird noises. We have a 'rainhead' shower, so it went traight onto my head, so possibly freezing my brain cells, as I spent the whole time with the water straight on my head, which lead to a feeling of lightheadedness and dizziness, so I thought it best to turn off the water, rather than pass out in the shower. (Yes, I have done that before, twice, and ended up hospitalised.) 55 seconds.
You'll be pleased to know I made up the extra 5 seconds on Day 2 - having worked out that the heads goes in and out of the cold water, not constantly under it! The only issue on Day 2 was my Reynaud's leading to a bit of numbness in my fingers!
And I could actually use my brain on Day 2 - and thought about the homeless people for whom this is not a fund-raising opportunity, but a cold, hard fact of life (pun intended) - that if they want a shower, the water will be cold. The hole shower, not just the optional end bit. Very sobering in such a wealthy country.
