My Challenge is to Walk 20,000 steps a day EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS IN 2024

bg my challenge

My challenge is uncomfortable for me because...

It pushes me out of my comfort zone, just like Nedd’s journey inspires us all to do. I'm stepping up to this challenge to not only grow personally but also to raise awareness and support for We Are Mobilise, helping people in Australia experiencing homelessness.

I'm uncomfortable every day. It's something I will live with forever so throwing myself into this challenge, you'd think would be easy.

In 2022 and 2023 I had surgery to fuse bones in my feet together with pins and plates. Every single day, I am reminded mentally and physically that I am forever changed. Ongoing pain, fatigue, limited movement and forget about jumping out of bed easily! It's more a 90 year old hobble.

This year alone, I have had 3 surgeries. 2 of them major. Currently, I'm 5 weeks post a major surgery and probably absosutely insane for trying this, but the idea is to be uncomfortable so straight off the bat, I've ticked the box!

I previously said i wouldn't be able to do this and grieved that loss.... but here I am, with a fire in my belly and plenty of Voltaren on standby!

Day 1. Getting. It. Done.

So please, as I attempt to go 20,000 steps a day, roughly 16kms, help me raise $1600 which is a small drop in Nedds ocean but man, am I going to do it!

JUST KEEP SHOWING UP 💪🏼

My Updates

DAY 10 - SHE MADE IT

Thursday 31st Oct
Challenge complete!
PAIN IS TEMPORARY, GREATNESS LASTS FOREVER!

10 days ago, I set this challenge of covering 20,000 steps a day which equates to 16kms a day, every day, for 10 days. that's 160kms. On day 10, I have finished at 183.57kms in 10 days.

I cannot give enough thanks to those who have watched, supported, messaged, encouraged, allowed me space to break apart (disco ball era) and helped put me back together (as much as I could be put).
As you can imagine, the physical toll is ENORMOUS, the mental side HEAVY, but I have good people who take care of me and allow me room to attack these types of missions head on.

6 weeks ago, I had major abdominal surgery, I didn't get the ALL-CLEAR until Day 9 of this challenge (best to ask for forgiveness than permission). I was careful, listened to my body and rested when needed (as much as I could)

I can confirm SHE CAME AND SHE CONQUERED!
TO THE FUCKING MOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 9. I dislike you IMMENSELY

Monday 28th Oct

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟵. 𝗙𝗨𝗨𝗨𝗨𝗖𝗖𝗖𝗖𝗞.
I cannot put into words the depths I am having to dig to complete this challenge. For anyone in the "fitness realm" 15 mins per km is about a light stroll, if that. That is where we are at. It's slow. It's painful. I'm spent.
This morning was TURBULENT to say the least. At 5kms in, I was walking as the sun was rising by the beach and this woman appeared out of nowhere and walked immediately in front of me.
From behind, she looked EXACTLY like my beautiful aunty who we lost in 2019. I SOBBED. She loved the beach. It is where we threw 🌻 into the ocean on the day of her funeral at her favourite beach in Burleigh Heads. It was a bitter-sweet moment wanting to tap this woman on the shoulder as I was constantly telling myself ITS NOT HER.
I had to change paths, it became too much for me.
That moment made me kick up a gear to get it done. Day 9. You @rsehole. 𝔻𝔸𝕐 𝟙𝟘... 𝕀𝕄 ℂ𝕆𝕄𝕀ℕ𝔾 𝔽𝕆ℝ 𝕐𝕆𝕌 💪🏼

Day 6. 12Kms done this morning

Friday 25th Oct
Yesterday I had my first breakdown. After 90kms I'm surprised it took me that long. But it happened.
Then after I picked myself up, I set out,  without checking the rain radar and it POURED on me.... so what did i do?
I finished what I started and danced in the God damn rain 🚀

This morning, was back out there again at 5am. Done 13kms to kick off Friday! I'm leaning on Voltaren today and just continuing to show up! 💪🏼

Day 4 - 442am KICK OFF

Wednesday 23rd Oct
Went big this morning. 14.63kms straight out the gates. Needless to say, I am a bit slower day 4. Fatigue is setting in, blisters, feet in general. Ticking the uncomfortable box HARD!

This mornings effort!

Tuesday 22nd Oct

DAY. 3. 10am Update

Tuesday 22nd Oct
This morning, alarm went off at 430am and I was out the door by 445am. Kicked 13kms in the guts and have 16,482 steps on the clock already. SHE MEANS BUSINESS TODAY!
Body update, feet are tapped, I'm hobbling, popping Voltaren Tablets like MnMs........ so ticking the brief being UNCOMFORTABLE! YIEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

$16 for every kms. 160kms in 10 days!

Monday 21st Oct
Right, so I was planning on donating $16 everyday for each km that I complete over the 10 days (160kms in total) however, we all know me, I am going to do it even if I crawl, so to save me trying to remember an extra step (pardon the pun) I am putting down my $160 (the difference from yesterday) and backing myself! LESSSSSSSSGO

(Another 4579 to chase down today) DAY 2.

Day 1, did!

Sunday 20th Oct
21,124 steps for Day 1 💪🏼

$16 a day for 10 days

Sunday 20th Oct
Put down my 1st $16
Currently out here at 9747 steps..... getting it done!
