My Challenge is to do a video reflecting on how losing my mum has made me feel AND run increasing distances (finishing with a marathon). EVERY DAY FROM 20-29 OCT

bg my challenge

My challenge is uncomfortable for me because...

Speaking about losing mum is something I have not spent a lot of time doing, processing it is scary but it's something that will force me to get out of my comfort zone.

Sharing these reflections online is even scarier as it forces a sense of vulnerability but that is what this challenge is all about!

Additionally, I wanted to include a physical pursuit because I haven't been running throughout this year as I've been dealing with it all. Running's always been something I've enjoyed as a form of meditation of the mind, hopefully processing through the pain (and stretching for something that scares me) will serve as a great reminder about what is possible.

I hope through Nedd's Uncomfortable Challenge we all come to the realisation that homelessness is a solvable problem and we can really begin to work towards this as a society.

My Updates

Longest one yet 🏃🏽

Monday 16th Sep
Well this one hurt.

We've set the challenge now to try and complete a marathon in October and the only way we'll get there is by extending out the distance.

This was our biggest run yet, it wasn't easy and it wasn't super fun but heck was it fulfilling.

Love the opportunity to stretch those legs and to continue to defy what initially the body / mind thought was possible at the start of the run. One foot in front of another, T-35ish days until we dance!

Well that one hurt...

Friday 13th Sep
Alrighty, set out at the start of this run to run 21km no matter what. It hurt (a lot) and was a slow grind but we achieved the goal. Wanted to shock the body and remember what it was capable of and really stoked to tick that one off the list.

Going to just keep on extending the km's out each week and start to see what's possible. We're into September and under a month to go until October! Lessgooo 💪

Falling Back In Love With Running

Monday 9th Sep
Has been a while since I ran, fell in love with it during COVID - blew out my ankle at the back end of 2023 and haven't dusted off the runners in nearly a year.

With everything going on with mum, had at times forgotten to take the best care of myself physically as i was just trying to hold on. It's been magic being back out dancing (slowly) on the feet, recapturing the magic and having fitness serve as a form of therapy.

Went on a wonderful run through Brisbane last week in the sunshine as we were about to launch our new program Mobilise Mobility and smiled knowing that I was running for good, training for a challenge that will hopefully make a big impact but also getting back to feeling how I was before it all went down with mum. Hold the vision, trust the process

So now we're running too...

Monday 2nd Sep
So I'm updating my challenge and will be running each day - culminating in a marathon on Day 10. Today we are T-50 days out from the start of the challenge and I'm going to be starting proper training for this now.

This is going to be an opportunity to see what we can do if we set our mind to it. It will be a very emotional period with the videos about mum but I hope through this physical pursuit during the 10 days I'll be able to process through it all too. I'm scared, I'm nervous but I'm also excited to see what awaits on the other side of getting 'Uncomfortable'.
