My Challenge is to - Walk/run 5kms - 5 mins of mindfulness - No screens after 6pm - Other physical challenge of choice - Do something kind for someone EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS IN 2024

bg my challenge

My challenge is uncomfortable for me because...

It pushes me out of my comfort zone, just like Nedd’s journey inspires us all to do. I'm stepping up to this challenge to not only grow personally but also to raise awareness and support for We Are Mobilise, helping those experiencing homelessness.

My Updates

Reflections and insights

Thursday 31st Oct
I promise this is going to be my last post about Nedd's Uncomfortable Challenge.
Here are some reflections and things we learnt along the way.

Parts of the challenge that I enjoyed:
- Walking every day
- Mindfulness, especially the Guided Meditations
- The kindness part of the challenge

Parts that were difficult:
- The sit-ups and crunches
- No screens after 6 was definitely the hardest part for me. I ended up having a notepad and writing all the things that I needed to do on my phone the next day.
- Managing my time to get it all done everyday while still looking after three kiddos. There were a couple of deviations but I actually planned all my walks (the time, who with, where etc) at the start of the challenge to keep me accountable and organised. I also planned out all the kindness challenges, a couple of these I spontaneously changed but I mostly stuck to it.
- Putting myself out there on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. This isn't my usual style and felt very uncomfortable but I am glad to have done it to help raise the money.

Grateful for:
- Sharing such a great experience with Tanelle Mitchell. She said yesterday "this is one of the best things I have done in my life". I am proud and happy that I got to experience that with her. Early on we stopped promoting our own individual pages and just shared the team one, this was a real joint effort and something to be proud of together.
- Being part of something bigger than what we did. Nedd's Uncomfortable Challenge as a whole (including his part and everyone else's) has raised 4.7 million dollars for We Are Mobilise with this money going to help homelessness. Listening to stories about the work that they do and knowing that we helped in a small way is really special and meaningful.
- All the words of encouragement, donations and people who walked with us.
- Especially grateful for all the nature walks. This is one of my happy places.
- Grateful to Michelle Heard for giving us lots of encouragement, donating, walking with us and helping us get the final donation to reach our goal of $1000. We really appreciate your unwavering support and you believing in us ❤️

What I learnt:
- Walking is great for my mental health. I didn't use headphones for any walks. I either mindfully walked or walked with a friend.
- I remembered that I like guided meditations and I am going to keep that in my daily routine.
- I enjoy socialising and walking, 6 out of the 10 walks were with someone else. If you include the kids, all of them were with someone.
- I was much more productive at night without any screens.
- I slept really well. I think this is a combo of the exercise and no screens before bed.

Things to keep doing in the future:
- Keep walking but sometimes stop before the 5, especially with all three kids. Yesterday I still completed the 5 even though the challenge has ended.
- Keep up a daily mindfulness routine. Before the challenge I was journaling and I have completed gratitude journals in the past. I really enjoyed reigniting this and I will keep it up.
- Limit screen time. Last night we still ate dinner early, had limited screen time and all went to bed early. Matt and I didn't go back to our default and flick on Taskmasters, we talked and connected instead.

This will be my last post about it (until next year 😉) but thanks again.
