My Challenge is to Run 12 kilometres EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS IN 2024

bg my challenge

My challenge is uncomfortable for me because...

I have struggled for some time now to continually motivate myself to stay fit. Instead opting to regularly consume takeaway and use that as an excuse. Nedd's uncomfortable challenge has inspired me to step outside my comfort zone challenging myself to do something I don't want to do that is a choice, unlike those experiencing homelessness that don't have the luxury of that choice.

My Updates

DAY 10 0F 10 COMPLETING 1 MATER LAP A DAY

Tuesday 29th Oct
6:20am and my alarm went off. 1 more run to go. Maybe it was the thought of conquering the hill that I was afraid of, I'm not quite sure. Every excuse I could think of was going through my mind to why I wouldn't show up, my body was aching and I was walking on my heels to avoid all the blisters. But I showed up. By about the 4th lap found my rhythm and started ticking off small milestones. 120kms, 125kms and FINALY 128.4kms!!! The feeling of elation when the watch clicked over to that final marker was indescribable and incredibly overwhelming. I am so incredibly proud of achieving this goal alongside my good mate Cohen who has also successfully tackled the same mammoth task. One last fundraising goal to reach and then we can celebrate a job well done. Song of the day: The Special Two by Missy Higgins

Day 9 of completing 1 Master Lap a day

Monday 28th Oct
One foot in front of the other this morning. At times I found myself closing my eyes, turning up the volume on my music, anything to block out the internal dialogue telling me to stop. I have a choice to stop or keep pushing on. Those who are forced to sleep on the streets have had that choice taken away from them. For them I will continue to push myself. One more day to go. Song of the Day: Northern Attitude by Noah Kahan

Day 8 of completing 1 Master Lap a day

Monday 28th Oct
Some small hills and a little bit of cross country added to todays run. As the sun came out I was glad we got moving early. The duration of the run is becoming easier but the impact and inability to recover is far more challenging than before. Incredible milestone of 100kms run in 8 days today. That felt good! 2 more to go. Person of the Day: Alex Haren

Day 7 of completing 1 Master Lap a day

Monday 28th Oct
Having the support of those around you is an incredible feeling. I was today joined by Alex without whom I'm sure I would have stopped multiple times. The views of the Fleurieu Peninsula were a welcomed sight away from laps of Price Memorial Oval. Song of the day: Sk8er Boi by Avril Lavigne

Day 6 of completing 1 Master Lap a day

Friday 25th Oct
6 days down and the magnitude of the challenge Nedd undertook has really started to sink in. The sheer determination to finish what he has started and use his platform to make a positive difference in someone else's life astounds me. I was joined by Mitcham FC Head Coach Luke Ivens today for the first half of the run. Running with the support of others makes an incredible difference. Good luck for the organisation of this years Team Up Triathlon.

Day 5 of completing 1 Master Lap a day

Thursday 24th Oct
Today became a step by step challenge. The impact on the joints had my mind telling me I should go down to a walk joining the dog walkers. Perhaps it was the challenge of tackling today solo? So I made the decision to leave the oval and take on the Streets. That got me thinking though. If that run and the Britannia round about are the biggest challenges I have today, far out I am lucky. Podcast of the Day: Two Good Sports - Abbey and Georgie react to the GWS scandal

Day 4 of completing 1 Master Lap a day

Wednesday 23rd Oct
The Sprinklers were back on this morning. Dodging them was an added challenge. But I was joined by two friends who made it so much more enjoyable. Leaving me to only think about how much of a challenge it would be to be living on the streets with the support of others and the comforts of home. Song of the Day: Zombie by the Cranberries

Day 3 of completing 1 Master Lap a day

Tuesday 22nd Oct
I met a lovely elderly lady today on my run. She envied my ability to run. I was 4km in and wasn't enjoying the bodily pains of being 3 days in. This gave me perspective. Such a small amount of discomfort in comparison to those doing it tough.

Day 2 of completing 1 Master Lap a day

Monday 21st Oct
Only walked once today, improving on yesterday. Dodging pop up sprinklers made for an interesting run. The blisters have started but only a small discomfort in comparison to someone sleeping on the streets. TO THE MOON!

Day 1 of completing 1 Master Lap a day

Monday 21st Oct
That was a sobering first run in the heat. Joined by the one and only Cohen Creeper. Day 1 complete onto the next. Song of the Day: Caroline by Amine
