My Challenge is to Run 21 kilometres EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS IN 2024

bg my challenge

My challenge is uncomfortable for me because...

It pushes me out of my comfort zone, just like Neddโ€™s journey inspires us all to do. I'm stepping up to this challenge to not only grow personally but also to raise awareness and support for We Are Mobilise, helping people in Australia experiencing homelessness.

My Updates

Day 10 29th October 2024

Tuesday 29th Oct
The last day of Nedds Uncomfortable Challenge!
One Half Marathon to go! Had a pretty relaxing day thinking, visualising and preparing for my final 21km run. This challenge has been a real push for me! I went from being an occasional runner to an outright psycho! This has been more of a mental challenge than a physical one! During this 10 day period Iโ€™ve run over 210kms, the most Iโ€™ve ever done! The most I had run previously was 11kms and that was only a week prior to the beginning of this challenge! Am I proud of myself? I sure am! Today I was accompanied by my plus one son, Carlin for the entirety of the 21km run. I think we were both in a bit of pain after the first 14kms,ย but pushed through as much as we could! This is the first time Carlin has run a half marathon, so I was really proud of him! His legs were gone!๐Ÿ˜‚ We started at 3:30pm and finished at 6:12pm, so not too bad. Mind you, I wasnโ€™t doing this for record times, just to raise money for the cause! Iโ€™m so tired right now, so Iโ€™ll sign off and finish my wrap up tomorrow.ย

Day 9 October 28th.

Monday 28th Oct
Second last 21km run! Started out with beautiful weather conditions to run in, but 6kms in it quickly turned to custard! Dark clouds rolled in with a light sprinkle of rain, then Bang! Thunder and lightning before a heavy down pour of rain! A few runners took refuge under a bridge but others, myself included, carried onโ€ฆit was a real Adrenalin Rush, especially when hail started beating my body! Once the Adrenalin hit, my pace increased and with it my heart rate! Iโ€™ve never been running in a storm before, so this was a real buzz! The good thing about running in a storm is that the usual pretenders (non committed) didnโ€™t venture out in the weather so there was less foot traffic that I had to navigate through! Less people dressed in their active wear walking 4 abreast to get in my way. Now I know Iโ€™m not a runner, but mate if youโ€™re gonna run, then run! Anyway, that rant is for another dayโ€ฆ It was an enjoyable run. Looking forward to tomorrows final runโ€ฆ
We go again tomorrow for the last time! Come at me! Letโ€™s push!!

Day 8 Sunday 27th October

Sunday 27th Oct
Woke up early around 4am and decided to get out the door and drive to Kangaroo Point to get my run done. After the troubles I had yesterday I wanted to make up for the lack of running by actually running as much as I can, set off on a nice easy pace and did the first 11.5kms in a pretty good time. I ended up running up to around the 17km, but then I went soft and came up with all the excuses of why it was ok for me to stop running and just walk?! My soft self won and I started to run/walk up until the end. Am happy that I got it done early, cos now I can relax and not have to worry about any running until after work tomorrow. Enjoy your Sabbath ! 8 down, 2 left to go! We go again tomorrow โ€ฆless puush!!

Day 7 Saturday 26th October

Saturday 26th Oct
Needed compression therapy this morning to aid in recovery for my legs, but it wasnโ€™t enough to get my left foot to where it needed to be to run on.
So, I made a decision to run/walk today. Less impact on my leg and body, plus it gives my foot a chance to heal for the remaining 3 half marathons. Was a grind todayโ€ฆbut was accompanied by my nephew Connor. Was great to have him with me! Was definitely a help in getting me through 21kms tonight! We did manage to run 4kms out of the 21, but that was it! Our time was 3:50:32โ€ฆwas just happy that we got it done.ย
ย 7 down, 3 to go! Tomorrow we go again! Letโ€™s Puuush!

Day 6 Friday 25th October

Friday 25th Oct
Well I wasnโ€™t looking forward to my run today, especially after the hurt from last night. I thought Iโ€™d better wait until the temp was cooler, so I didnโ€™t even start my run until after 6pm. This definitely is a mental challenge! Not motivated, not psyched up, but off I wentโ€ฆ
I did the same route as yesterday with a minor tweak to add a bit more distance. One thing I find hard when running, is doing laps, so Iโ€™ve been looking at where I can lengthen my route so as not to repeat areas of my runโ€ฆ
My first 2 kms was good, steady even pace, but then I spotted a guy in front of me and used him as a pacer. He kept a good pace, but stopped at 6kms. When I looked at my watch I realised that because I was trying to keep up with him, I actually ran consistent times. From then on I tried to keep my pace up, but my heart rate 135 and below. Long story short, I ended up doing a personal best time for a half marathon! Now, Iโ€™m not a runner, so I was so stoked to get a good timeโ€ฆfor me! 2:20:10โ€ฆ Cheewhoo! Who said we ย canโ€™t push ourselves to improve when we get older?! Age is just a number! Oh, and sorry about last nights updatesโ€ฆif you couldnโ€™t tell, I was falling asleep while trying to write?!๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚
6 down 4 to go! Letโ€™s Puuush!!ย

Day 5! Thursday 24 October

Thursday 24th Oct
Another 21 kms in the bank! Took my time getting it done today. Was probably the nicest weather to run in since starting this challenge. No time pressure, just trying to keep my body cool and calm. Left ankle and right knee inflamedโ€ฆbut just ran through the pain. Slowest time to date, but not worried about any records.
5 down 5 to go ! This is the most Iโ€™ve ever run! 105 kms in 5 daysโ€ฆsoo happy with that. We go again tomorrow. Letโ€™s Puuuuush.

Day 5 Hump Day

Thursday 24th Oct
Another gruelling time on the feet trying to get it done! Kangaroo Point Cliffs again

Day 5 HumpDay! Thursday 24 October

Thursday 24th Oct
Another day, another 21kms in the bank. Run started off fine, happily running, smiling to other runners going in the opposite direction. Was feeling blessed that I get to do this! Everything was going fine until the 15km mark! ย My noThe last 6 kms was a killer! Was on the run/walk for the final 6 kilometresโ€ฆbut got the run completed! ย We go again tomorrowโ€ฆLetโ€™s Puuuuush!

Day 4. Wednesday 23 October

Wednesday 23rd Oct
Finished work early and headed straight to my running route. Ran around the city again. Was soo hot, but didnโ€™t want to wait for the cool of the night, so just ran in the heat! Stopped running at 19kms, due to inflamed knee and ankle. I ran/walked the last 2kms. Not worried about my timeโ€ฆjust happy to get it done! We go again tomorrow! Letโ€™s Puuush!

Day 3. Tuesday 22 October

Tuesday 22nd Oct
Preparation for my run didnโ€™t go to plan?! Couldnโ€™t run the route I had planned due to parking issues, so had to reframe and run an alternative route. However once I got going I settled into a nice easy groove. Everything felt good until I hit the 16km markโ€ฆthen it all felt heavyโ€ฆthe struggle was real! Had to just put one foot in front of the other for the final 5kms. But I got it done! 3/10 letโ€™s Puuush!!

Day Two Monday 21st October

Tuesday 22nd Oct
Finished work at 3:30pm and headed down to West End to begin my run. Did the exact same route as yesterday, but started at the halfway mark, hoping that it would be easierโ€ฆbut it wasnโ€™t! Grateful that I get to push myself for a great cause! 2 down 8 to go! Tomorrow we go again! Letโ€™s Puuush!

Day One of โ€œ Neddโ€™s Uncomfortable Challenge.โ€

Sunday 20th Oct
Day one, done and dusted! My first half marathon is completed! Was a beautiful morning to run, but ย even more impressive was that my daughter Amber joined me on the run. Neither of us are runners, but off we wentโ€ฆ3 hours later we finished our 21kms. Happy to be doing this with the support of my family and friends!
